Valeriia from Ukraine shared with us her internship experience

Back

Valeriia Koberniuk, a student at Chernivtsi National University from Ukraine, came to Bratislava for her internship as an HR Trainee at Lenovo.

Before she came to Slovakia for the internship, she already felt confident about the decision and had no particular concerns holding her back as everything turned out the way she hoped it would.

Throughout her internship, Valeriia found the explanations and guidance she received to be useful, which made it easier to navigate her tasks:

“The explanations were pretty clear and helpful.”

Additionally, one common problem students have is building confidence in professional communication and presentation skills. Internships are helpful in this situation, as they give students the chance to practice these skills in a real corporate setting. Valeriia shared the same experience here:

“I learned a lot about analytics, communication skills, I got more confident during business communication and presentations. Also about corporate work, organization, project management and teamwork. Also, I had the opportunity to research and learn more about AI”

The most important part is that our interns gain experience in working on real projects and take on real responsibility. Valeriia described her tasks as following:

“I was preparing communications, presentations, project management, awards submission, analytics. I liked workflow, communicating with people within the project. Also making nice comms and presentations I could spend hours designing them and making them useful ”

Besides work, there is a wonderful opportunity to explore Slovakia and experience new culture. For Valeriia, the similarities between Slovak and Ukrainian culture made the adjustment easier:

“I enjoyed landscapes and mountains. A lot of similarities from my culture and language so it was easier to adapt.”

In Placement Slovakia, we understand how important it is to have accommodation provided when travelling abroad for a long period. Valeria shared her thoughts about the flat:

"I really liked it, everything was provided, I was on good terms with flatmates, the atmosphere was fun and friendly"

At the same time, the most pleasant experience was making new friends, gaining new experiences, and traveling around Europe during her time here. So, for her future plans, Valeriia is focused on finishing her university studies.

As advice for interns, Valeriia shared that newcomers should set clear goals for their internship from the very start, deciding what they want to learn and achieve from the experience.

We are glad to have had Valeriia as an intern through our program and wish her success in her further plans.
