Abdullah's oriental stairway to Žilina

Back

Abdullah, a PhD. student from Turkey has been doing his Erasmus+ Internship in Slovakia for 3 months.  He decided to start this writing series with the encouragement of Placement Slovakia which provided him this internship opportunity.  Abdullah knows that it is a really challenging process to find an internship, and for that reason he would like to share his step by step experience from acceptance of traineeship until present days.

What is his story like ? :

My internship story began with my first Erasmus+ experience in Austria. After 5 spectacular months I spent there, my desire to learn different cultures has increased even more. Since then I started to explore for internship opportunities related to my background and fortunately I found Placement Slovakia programme on the internet.

I applied for Big Data Specialist position in Žilina which is the 4th largest city in Slovakia. The application process was straightforward. I only filled an online application form and received a confirmation e-mail. Within a week I received another e-mail for my first interview. We interviewed over Skype and it took about 15 minutes. The first interview questions were mostly general.  Then I received another e-mail with an invitation for the second round of interview after 2 weeks since the first interview. This time, I was interviewed by the company manager and it took about 15 minutes. However, this one was more specific about my technical background and required skills for the position.

In the end of a nearly 40 days lasting period I found an acceptance e-mail in my inbox and this was the beginning of a new adventure for me…

We are happy that Abdullah shared the beginning of his story with us and we are looking forward to the next chapter of his Slovakian adventure, which is going to be about the journey to Slovakia, first days in Žilina and visa issues.
