Pedro, a student from Portugal, tells us about his internship experience.

Back

Pedro, a student at Universidade do Algarve from Portugal, came to Bratislava for his internship as an SSG EMEA Finance Intern.

Before he came to Slovakia for the internship, he had familiar worries that many people share before starting a new experience, about the workload and his accommodation. However everything turned out to be okay:

“I worried about the workload and the accommodation, but everything was fine.”

Additionally, one common problem students have is a lack of practical experience, and internships are helpful in this situation, as they let students build hands-on skills. Pedro shared the same experience here:

“I acquired skills in the area of automating financial reports with the consistent support from colleagues, learned how to approach and analyze the financial life of a large company and how to work with colleagues remotely.”

The most important part is that our interns gain experience in working on real tasks and take on real responsibility. Pedro described his role as following:

“Supports Finance Team on standard reports and tasks; preparing and automating monthly and quarterly Financial Reports; supporting the monthly Forecast process for all EMEA countries/markets; supporting the annual Budget & Financial Planning.”

Besides work, there is a wonderful opportunity to explore Slovakia and experience new culture. For Pedro, the country's natural beauty stood out the most:

“What I liked id the natural beauty of the country.”

At the same time, the most pleasant experience was all the learning he gained throughout his internship. So, for his future plans, Pedro is ready to start working.

As advice for interns, Pedro shared that newcomers should take the opportunity to travel in Slovakia, as this country has a lot to offer for your free time activities:

“I recommend newcomers to explore the country“
