Devín Castle (Hrad Devín) is one of the largest and oldest castles in Slovakia. The ruins of a medieval fortress rise above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. The ancient walls offer an incredible view of neighboring Austria and the Small Carpathian Mountains, which are part of the Western Carpathians in Slovakia. An interesting museum was created on the remains of Devin Castle. How we got to it, what we did, and where we went next, we will tell in this article.

One more trip from Placement Slovakia took place just recently. Together with 15 interns, we went to a “must-see” place in Slovakia - Devin castle.

Devin Castle (also known as Hrad Devín) is a historic castle located in the municipality of Devín, which is located in the Bratislava region of Slovakia. The castle is situated on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers and is one of the most important cultural monuments in the region.

The castle's history dates back to the 9th century when a fortress was built on the site by the Slavs. Over the centuries, the castle underwent numerous renovations and additions, with the current structure dating back to the 13th century. The castle was an important strategic point in the region and played a significant role in the defense of the area against invaders. Today, the castle is open to the public and serves as a popular tourist attraction.

The trip from Bratislava to Devin Castle took half a day. Devinsky Castle is impressive, even though it is only ruined.  Convenient transport links with Bratislava, incredible views and a thousand-year history of the area make Devinsky Castle a must-see. A good mood and an interesting time were guaranteed for all of us.

After that, we left to enjoy the wonderful views and headed along the hiking trails to the high point where the observation tower is located. It is called Mount Devinska Kobyla (Devinska Kobyla - 514 m above sea level), the hillside of which is a national nature reserve. Moreover, from this observation point, in addition to Slovakia, we saw Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. During this short hike, the trainees had the opportunity to get to know each other, exchange life stories, experience in Slovakia and enjoy the natural beauty of Slovakia.

Here you can see photos from our trip.
