Our life is a continuous series of events and sometimes we are knocked down with surprises that we never expected. Could Katerina have guessed that she would spend five months in Slovakia, Bratislava in the company of one of the world's leading providers of reinsurance, insurance, and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer? And all this resulted in receiving an official job offer from the company where the internship occurred. Let's take a closer look at Katerina and her fascinating story.
Katerina is an economics student from Ukraine, she decided to try her hand and applied for an internship at a global finance company. Looking back, she can definitely say that not everything was easy and straightforward right away. She was working with data management, processing incoming and outgoing payments, closing activity, reconciliation, and preparing different types of reports. Here's what Katerina says about her first days on this job: “I can tell you honestly that there was nothing familiar to me in this position or something I've dealt with before, I was encountering programs and financial operating systems that I was seeing for the first time. I can confidently say that I have not received such useful practical skills anywhere else, it was a tremendous experience for me.”
Katerina shared with us that the main and enjoyable discovery for her was the people with whom she worked. "My colleagues are just something incredible. I always came to work with a smile and enthusiasm, because I knew that despite some difficulties in my work, I always had people around who sometimes could support me with a joke, tell some breaking news, or simply give valuable advice at work. Special thanks to my manager, who supervised and trained me all this time, I think he had to work hard with me :) . Nevertheless, I never hesitated to ask questions and always got answers, I really had to learn a lot and without such support and understanding, I would not have been able to master all the new information and apply it in practice.”
We also asked Katerina about how she spent her free time. "To tell the truth, I didn't have much free time as I was still continuing my online learning at my university, but I can definitely say that the people I met already in Slovakia were very kind to me, and we spent a lot of time together traveling around Slovakia and the surrounding countries, all of it was as comfortable and fun as possible. Another piece of advice I would like to give to interns like me is that you should not forget about your health, remember to have a proper and balanced diet, and what is especially important is good and quality sleep. You will need your strength for new accomplishments! "
It is also important to note that after successfully completing her internship, Katerina received an official job offer from the employer where she interned. She gladly accepted the offer and will stay in Bratislava for another year to work as a full-time staff member and further develop her abilities and skills in her professional path.
